TIVAR® UHMW-PE Grades Guide | Emco Industrial Plastics
UHMW and TIVAR®

Why UHMW-PE, and why TIVAR® specifically

Every TIVAR® grade starts from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene — prized for its impact strength, abrasion resistance, and near-zero moisture absorption. Mitsubishi Chemical's TIVAR® formulations then modify that base resin with fillers, dry lubricants, colorants, or detection additives to solve one specific problem on your line.

01

Abrasion & Wear Resistance

Outlasts carbon steel and most engineering plastics in sliding-abrasion service, even at low temperatures.

02

Low Coefficient of Friction

Naturally self-lubricating surface reduces drive loads, noise, and material hang-ups on chutes and liners.

03

Chemical & Moisture Resistance

Virtually inert to most process chemicals; negligible water absorption protects dimensional stability.

04

Wide Service Range

Retains toughness from cryogenic temperatures up to roughly 85°C continuous service.

Specifications

Match the problem on your line to a grade

TIVAR® grades sort into five practical families. Start with the problem you're solving, then narrow to the specific grade.

TIVAR 1000

General Duty

The baseline TIVAR® formulation and the industry reference point for UHMW-PE. Balanced wear resistance, impact strength, and friction performance for bearings, bushings, chain guides, sprockets, and rollers.

TIVAR 88

Bulk Handling

Premium lining material purpose-built for bulk material handling, where extremely low friction and wear are the priority — hopper and chute liners moving abrasive bulk solids.

Chute LinersHoppersBins

TIVAR DrySlide

Bulk & Low-Friction

Modified with built-in dry lubricants, giving it the lowest coefficient of friction of any TIVAR® product plus enhanced antistatic behavior. Suited to parcel chutes, transfer plates, and dusty conveyor environments.

TIVAR Oil Filled

Bulk & Low-Friction

Oil-filled polymer for a further-reduced coefficient of friction and quieter operation. Common on diverter bars, roller covers, conveyor skirting/scrapers, and self-unloading ship components. FDA-compliant.

TIVAR H.O.T.

Bulk & Low-Friction

A high-impact, noise-reducing formulation with enhanced release characteristics and wear resistance, aimed at the same demanding bulk-handling and off-road/mining duty as Oil Filled and 88.

TIVAR HPV / HPV FG

Bearing & High-Load

Bearing-grade material with a built-in dry lubricant that can cut the coefficient of friction of finished components by up to 80%. HPV FG is certified to EU 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR §177.1520 for food-industry conveyor components.

TIVAR Ceram P

Bearing & High-Load

Glass-filled and easily identified by its bright green color. Delivers higher tensile strength and stiffness than standard UHMW for high-speed, high-load, sliding-abrasion duty — a shatter-resistant alternative to ceramic linings.

TIVAR CleanStat

Static Control

Formulated to control static charge buildup where it matters most — electronics and semiconductor handling equipment where an uncontrolled static discharge can damage product.

ElectronicsSemiconductorStatic-Dissipative

TIVAR EC

Static Control

An electrically conductive grade for applications that need charge dissipated to ground rather than just controlled — a step beyond CleanStat for ESD-sensitive environments.

ESD ProtectionConductive

TIVAR MD

Food & Sanitary

Metal-Detectable grade engineered to be reliably picked up by standard metal-detection lines — giving food processors a traceable fail-safe if a fragment ever breaks free. FDA and EU compliant.

Food ProcessingTraceability

TIVAR VMX

Food & Sanitary

Goes a step further than MD: detectable visually, by metal detector, and by X-ray. Built to improve safety and product integrity across food processing operations while meeting EU and NA food-contact regulations.

X-Ray DetectableFood Safety

TIVAR UV Resistant

General Duty

Standard TIVAR® toughness with UV stabilization added, for components that live outdoors — yard equipment, agricultural gear, and other sun-exposed wear parts that would otherwise chalk or embrittle over time.
