Radel® R is an extruded form of polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) that offers higher impact resistance and has superior hydrolysis resistance than other amorphous materials, including both polysulfone (PSU) and polyetherimide (PEI).
Radel® R PolyArylEtherSulfone or PAES (also known as Polyphenylsulfone or PPSU) withstands virtually unlimited steam sterilizability, outlasting other materials by a factor of 40:1. This factor makes it an excellent choice for medical devices which are constantly subjected to sterilization in steam autoclaves. Radel® R also resists common acids and bases, including commercial washing solutions, over a broad temperature range. Its heat deflection temperature of 400°F (205°C) makes it suitable for use in electronic assembly equipment and devices that must withstand solder temperatures.
Radel® R is available in amber (translucent), natural (bone white), and custom colors. Radel® R is USP Class VI compliant.
Engineering note: Although Radel® R has been approved for use in a variety of medical devices, it is not FDA compliant and therefore not appropriate for food contact applications. Radel is not a wear material, and its properties degrade when exposed to sunlight.
