PETG is a thermoplastic sheet used in engineering applications. PETG offers the capability to produce complex shapes, precise details, deep draws and compound curves without worrying about durability. It’s easily formed, die-cut, punched , routed, welded, drilled, die-punched, bent cold or hot, and joined by screws, rivets, or bolts. It can be edge-polished, using sanding, solvents, flame polishing, or commercial edge finishing equipment. It brings increased design freedom and lower fabrication costs. In sheet form, PETG has the impact strength and fabrication ease that acrylic can’t touch, with the durability to significantly reduce packaging and shipping costs.
Other main benefits of PET-G are high clarity, surface gloss retention, FDA acceptability for food contact, an absence of stress whitening, acceptance of inks and paints and ease of processing, but most importantly, affordable price. PETG exhibits good resistance to dilute aqueous solutions of mineral acids, bases, salts, and soaps. PETG also has good resistance to aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, and a variety of oils. Halogenated hydrocarbons, low molecular weight ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbons dissolve or swell this plastic.
