Kydex® is an acrylic-polyvinyl chloride alloy that combines the advantageous properties of both the acrylic and the polyvinyl chloride components.
From acrylic, this thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride alloy obtains superior rigidity and formability; from PVC, its outstanding toughness, chemical resistance, and good interior finish ratings. This combination of strength properties places Kydex® at the highest level among thermoforming materials. In addition to a high degree of toughness and resilience, parts formed of Kydex® will deform less when loaded. This is of particular importance in deep formed parts with thin wall sections. Kydex® sheet can be very competitive and effective as an alternative to materials such as painted metal, fire-retardant ABS, Noryl®, and Lexan® (polycarbonate).
Kydex®’s diversity of mechanical and electrical properties, fire ratings, textures, thicknesses, colors and patterns are encompassed by more than 29 standard and custom sheet formulations to meet diverse and demanding end-use applications. It is offered in a 36 standard colors of various thicknesses and surface textures, granite patterns, realistic wood grains, and metallics.
