Glass-filled acetal is used in a variety of different industries such as the automotive and construction industries where added strength and stiffness are required. The "Glass" in glass filled acetal is powdered glass that is incorporated into the mix during the manufacturing stage. Incorporating powdered glass fibers into acetal will increase the stiffness substantially by up to 80% more than standard grade acetal. This means that the tensile strength is also increased in the process by up to 70%.
Worried about thermal expansion? Glass filled acetal has about half the thermal expansion rate as unfilled acetal. What this means is that as the temperature goes up or down, your components would normally move all over the place, glass-filled grades tend to stay where they are.
