Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is an economical option for many applications requiring low temperature flexibility, toughness, and durability.

LDPE is the least expensive, most flexible (more than HDPE), and has good clarity in film form. However, it has low temperature impact resistance and the least heat resistance with a maximum service temperature of 160° to 180°F. LDPE is also susceptible to stress cracking, especially by detergents. LDPE’s easy machinability makes it a good choice for fabricated parts where corrosion and chemical resistance is required, although it can be attacked by strong oxidizing acids. LDPE is available natural (milky white) and black (recommended for improved durability in direct sunlight or outdoor exposure). Some sizes are available in various colors.
