Delrin is often used for a high number of fabricated and manufactured parts throughout various industries. This blog will discuss the many uses of Delrin parts.

What Is Delrin Plastic Used For?

Delrin plastic has many characteristics beneficial for mechanical and industrial applications. It has good dimensional stability and excellent machinability, making it easy for manufacturers to work with. Industries that depend on Delrin parts do so because of its durability, including superior impact and creep resistance, high fatigue endurance, a hard, resilient surface with a low coefficient of friction, exceptional strength and stiffness properties, resistance to chemicals, fuels, and solvents, and low moisture absorption. Not only is it a highly durable plastic, but it is FDA, NSF, and USDA compliant in its natural grade, making it appropriate for a wide range of industries.

Delrin, a high-performance acetal resin, is sought out for many types of parts, including:

  1. Gears: Delrin is the most widely used resin for gears, providing excellent strength and stiffness for wear protection with no need for glass fibers as reinforcement.
  2. Safety restraint components: When saving lives is the purpose, Delrin is the material the automotive industry depends on to meet the many requirements for safety restraint devices, including zero manufacturing defects, ability to withstand wide temperature variations, impact resistance, conformance to tight dimensions, and adherence to low FA emission requirements.
  3. Door system components: Sophisticated, ergonomic door features on modern auto doors require high-tech materials. Delrin provides many requirements necessary for the auto industry, including low noise, lighter weight, and extreme durability that conform to automotive requirements.
  4. Conveyor system components: The mechanical properties of Delrin plastic is ideal for conveyor system components. It complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regulation 21-CFR-177.2470 that makes it appropriate for use with food items up to 250º F contact temperature that contains 15% or less alcohol.
  5. Medical device components: FDA-compliant Delrin parts provide enhanced ease of use and patient comfort for the smooth actuation of high-load drug delivery devices, such as injectors, inhalers, and pumps. The dimensional stability, stiffness, and strength qualities add to the injection precision of inserter devices, wearables, and a host of other medical equipment.
  6. Metal/X-Ray detectable materials: In the food processing and packaging industries, Delrin is frequently used thanks to its easy detection in foodstuffs, thus reducing the risk of financial loss for manufacturers and processing plants.
