Metal detectors and x-ray machines have long been used to detect metal and non-metal X-Ray detectable contamination in food processing operations. The trend today is the continued improvement in the detectability of supplies and equipment—including those made of plastic or rubber.
Ordinary plastics cannot be detected by metal detectors or x-ray machines. However, by incorporating new resin additives during manufacturing, broken pieces or fragments of plastic materials can be detected by a metal detector or x-ray inspection system before getting mixed in with food products. This allows manufacturers to prevent contaminated products from reaching the market. Detectable additives can be included in the resin to impart magnetic susceptibility in plastics so they can be separated magnetically or detected by metal detectors and x-ray inspection systems.Metal Detectable Grades

Request Fabrication/Machining ServicesSustarin® C XDT has been proven to be detected in a particle as small as a 3mm cube on production lines running as fast as 250 feet per minute. Repeated handling, cleaning and normal wear and tear of plastic component parts on food, beverage and pharmaceutical processing machinery increases the risk of a fragment breaking off and contaminating the product during processing.
Sustarin C XDTTecaform® UD Blue is the revolutionary new Ultra Detectable acetal copolymer designed specifically for applications in the food industry. High speed food production lines detect particulate matter in the food product one of three ways; Using optical scanners, metal detection equipment, or X-ray equipment Tecaform® UD Blue is the first engineering thermoplastic that will show up regardless of the scanning method used.
Tecaform UD BluePolystone® M XDT has proven to be detected with a particle size as small as a 3mm cube. Running at speeds as fast as 250 feet-per-minute, this product can be detected and automatically sorted to a product hold area for further inspection. It works effectively with various types of packaging including metal cans, plastic and composite containers and glass jars.
Polystone M XDTSustapeek® XDT offers the best balance of properties of all thermoplastic materials,. In addition to outstanding mechanical properties, chemical resistance and thermal performance, Sustapeek® XDT can withstand long term continuous temperatures of 480°F as well as exposure to hot water or steam with low moisture absorption – which makes it the material of choice for high-temperature applications int he food processing industry.
