Nylon, Extruded, Type 6/6, Solid Lubricant Filled

Extruded Nylon 6/6 (polyhexamethylene adiptimide) is a moldable and extrudeable general-purpose nylon. Like Cast Nylon 6, it has good mechanical properties and wear resistance. Nylon 6/6 has a much higher melting point, better mechanical properties due to greater hardness, and lower water absorption than cast nylon. Because of its excellent balance of strength, ductility and heat resistance, nylon 6/6 is an outstanding candidate for metal replacement applications. Nylon 6/6 is very easy to process with a very wide process window. This allows it to be used for everything from complex, thin walled components to large thick walled housings.

Nylon 6/6 is very easy to modify with fillers, fibers, internal lubricants, and impact modifiers. The addition of internal lubricants improves on the already excellent wear resistance and friction properties of nylon 6/6. Solid lubricant additives impart self-lubricating, high pressure/velocity and superior wear resistance characteristics. This material is a type 6/6 extruded nylon compound with special additives offering superior bearing properties. It is recommended for applications where, in addition to superior bearing performance, other traditional 6/6 nylon properties also are desired.

A large number of formulations for nylon, i.e., glass-filled, Kevlar® filled, and molybdenum-disulfide filled grades, and variants within these grades such as FDA compliant, heat stabilized, impact modified are available to match specific application demands. Contact an Emco Industrial Plastics representative who can help you choose the correct material to meet the needs of your application.
