Extruded Nylon 6/6 (polyhexamethylene adiptimide) is a moldable and extrudeable general-purpose nylon. Like Cast Nylon 6, it has good mechanical properties and wear resistance. Nylon 6/6 has a much higher melting point, better mechanical properties due to greater hardness, and lower water absorption than cast nylon. Because of its excellent balance of strength, ductility and heat resistance, nylon 6/6 is an outstanding candidate for metal replacement applications. Nylon 6/6 is very easy to process with a very wide process window. This allows it to be used for everything from complex, thin walled components to large thick walled housings.
Nylon 6/6 that contains finely divided particles of MoS2 offers enhanced load bearing capabilities and increased wear and friction resistance than regular Nylon 6/6, while maintaining the impact resistance inherent to nylon. This grade has become a standard thermoplastic wear part material for many industries, most commonly used for large parts (gears, sheaves, sprockets and custom parts) with improved load bearing capability allowing for longer part life, decreased mating component wear, and less down time. It is gray-black in color.
A large number of formulations for nylon, i.e., glass-filled, lubricant filled, and Kevlar® filled grades, and variants within these grades such as FDA compliant, heat stabilized, impact modified are available to match specific application demands.
